The Metal Smelter is a work building under the "refining" sub-category, under the "refining" sub-category, where citizens smelt ore into metal, with the help of coal to fuel the furnaces. The importance of smelters stems from the many uses of metal, which is a somewhat common building material in higher-end buildings and components.
The metal smelter has two components, the required furnace and optional auxiliary furnace. Each furnace allows 2 employees to work in the building, and the auxiliary furnace adds efficiency to producing metal, meaning that metal will be produced faster.
The amount of metal produced will be 33% (or one third) greater than the amount of ore and coal that was used to smelt it (as the exact same amount of both are needed for metal production). Because of metal's importance of being a somewhat-common building material, coal should be managed properly to keep metal smelters going.
