Fruit Farms are agriculture constructs under the "farms" sub-category. Fruit seeds can be harvested from wild fruit or by importing fruit from abroad. If a settlement has no fruit anywhere in storage, fruit orchards cannot be made. The efficiency of the farm depends on the fertility of the soil the farm is built on.
Unlike most farms, fruit orchards require you to place trees as a component, each tree requiring a 4x4 space to sit. Additionally once the orchard is constructed, the planted trees will need 64 days in order to mature, during which they will produce no food. Once they have fully matured they require constant care from their farmers (1 per 3 trees) or they will perish. If you do manage to care for them correctly, they will provide a significant amount more fruit than a equivalently sized standard farm would.
High irrigation will also help fruit orchards, and can be increased if there is water in the tiles right next to it. This means that if the water is surrounding all or most tiles of the orchard, it will receive the maximum amount of help the water could provide. Rain will also help fruit orchards.
Fruit orchards are unaffected by climate.
Fruit orchards production can be sped up by acquiring upgrades with knowledge points.
Unlike other foods, fruit can also be farmed with another building: the fruit farm. These act like normal farms, being able to produce food without the wait time, but at a lower rate than a fully operational fruit orchard.
In-game description
"Grows fruit. Takes a long time to get productive, and sensitive to lack of labor. Produces much more than farms when operational though"
