Coal is a fuel resource in Songs of Syx. It can be obtained by wood being burned at a charcoaler, from coal mines or by trading. It's used to fuel many components in industrial buildings that would realistically need fuel to run, such as ovens, furnaces, kettles, etc. Because wood can be turned into coal, and wood is renewable, coal is also renewable by extension.
The very low cost of coal in trading makes it very easy to get that way. Because of how many buildings that require coal to function, especially during the mid-game and late-game, it's advisable to obtain and store as much coal as absolutely possible at all times. This includes having many large coal mines as well.
In-game description
