Stone is a common resource in Songs of Syx. Stone, like wood, is used for almost all types of buildings in the game. Stone can be collected from patches of rocks found embedded in the ground. Stone is relatively easy to find, as stone patches are quite common, but unlike trees which can grow back over time and be harvested again and again, stone does not give this luxury. Due to the importance of the resource, it is highly advisable for players to start their settlement near areas with stone.
Stone buildings are one tier above wood in terms of quality, as stone-made buildings will degrade slower and less overall compared to wood, meaning that janitors do not need to maintain stone structures as much as wooden ones.
There are three methods in obtaining stone. The first and quickest way is to use the Clear Rock or Remove all Resources commands, then dragging a selection box around a rocky area, which will have all available citizens mine all selected rocks for stone, instantly removing said rocks in the process. The second way of obtaining stone is building a stone mine over stone deposits, which requires employees to manage. The Stone Mine provides a constant supply of stone, but at a slower but continuous rate that doesn't immediately remove stone deposits being worked on. The third way of obtaining stone is to simply trade for it, which is relatively simple, given stone's low cost.
Stone is also used to make cut stone, another important building resource, and is architecturally more advanced than standard stone.
Difference in natural rocks
There are two types of rocks that can be collected in the game, though each one requires a different method to do so. The two types of rocks can be seen in this image:
