Rations are one of nine food resources. They are created by turning meat, bread, eggs, fruit or vegetables into a preserved ration at a rationmaker. The player can choose which of the aforementioned five foods will be turned into rations at a rationmaker building; only one food item can be chosen at a time for this purpose. Out of all the food items in the game, rations (along with eggs) have the slowest rate of spoiling.

Rations have a relatively low cost in trading, making them easy to obtain this way if a settlement is low on the other food resources needed to make the rations. The amount of each food item needed to make rations in a rationmaker are different, and will always produce two units of rations when these amounts are met. The amount of each food item needed to produce two ration units are as follows: four for meat, five for bread, five for eggs, six for fruit and six for vegetables.

Technically, the five foods that can be made into rations are all renewable, which by extension, make rations somewhat renewable as well. They are one of four resources that can be sent to campaigning armies on the world map through an army supply depot, the others being battlegear, clothes and drinks.

Rations being provided to traveling armies on the world map will experience a boost in morale. Armies not receiving rations after a long enough time will desert their armies.

In-game description

Standard description

"Rations are preserved food, used primarily by the army. It can also be eaten by subjects as is."

World map description

"Food is essential for keeping your army alive and functioning. Low supplies result in poor morale, and lack thereof revolts, or desertion. The army doesn't care what food type it eats. Each soldier eats 1/4 per day."
