Fish is one of nine food resources available in Songs of Syx. It can be acquired by having citizens catch fish in fisheries or by trading. Fish are not physically seen when active in water, but they are always present in any body of water. This includes not only water placed by the game, but canals made by using the Dig Canal command.

Fish can be gathered infinitely in water, so fisheries can gather them as long as the settlement lasts, making fish an excellent renewable food source. The trade-off is that fish spoils very fast. During the process of building a fishery, arrows will appear on water tiles, being red, yellow, green or blue (as seen in the image below). This shows the availability of the fish in each tile:
   Red arrow - 25%
   Yellow arrow - 50%
   Green arrow - 75%
   Blue arrow - 100%
Fish do not appear in deep/dark blue water tiles - the water tiles that citizens cannot walk on.

Dondorians, Humans and Cantors have a preference for fish. Like any other food, it can be prepared in meals in canteens and eateries.

In-game description

"Fish is a food source, but spoils quickly."

Fish availability.
