Water is a natural resource found in the world of Songs of Syx. There are two ways that water can appear in the game, the first is simply in the form of bodies of water, ranging from small puddles to massive lakes. The second form is through rainfall. Nearly all bodies of water contain fish, meaning that building fisheries can be built over water and provide fish as a helpful edible resource.

Water is useful in the maintaining of farms, as it can add fertility to them, thus improving them. Though water is not necessary to build farms, water can boost the effectiveness of them through irrigation, which is water being very close to farms. There is no way to directly pick up and collect water, but it is possible to dig canals which will fill with water immediately when dug out. It is also possible to empty water out of dug out areas.

When adding irrigation to farms, there must be tiles of water right next to the farm. There are two levels of water: shallow and deep. Shallow water can be walked on by citizens, where deep water cannot. During the idling times of the citizens, they may relax in water by swimming, lying or just standing in it. If the weather is hot enough, citizens will go skinny dipping to deal with the heat.

Cretonians have a strong preference for rivers, while Tilapis have an extremely low preference for them (only 3%), and the other species have absolutely no preference for oceans nor rivers whatsoever.
