Riots can occur when a species' happiness is below 100%. The farther away happiness is from 100%, the greater the chance of a riot. Even though riots happen for a specific species, other citizens of other species can join in. Riots consist of berzerk, angry citizens mindlessly attacking others and damaging any buildings near them, with others fleeing the chaotic scene. Even those who were previously part of the riot may begin to flee if they realize they are in more danger than they can handle.
The following message will appear when a riot has begun:
The aftermath of a riot will leave dead citizens and damaged buildings. Making sure that guardposts are set up all over a settlement beforehand can greatly reduce the damage a riot will make, although even a well-guarded settlement can still suffer greatly, as the number of citizens part of the riot can outnumber guards with ease.
